Assistant Director for Academic Enhancement

The role of this position is to support the Associate Dean for Academic Enhancement through the following ways:

Administrative

  • Research ways to improve academic enhancement and retention through the development of programs and policies.
  • Assist in the overall retention effort.
  • Maintain websites for Peer Tutoring and Freshman Seminar.
  • Assist the Retention Task Force.

Programming/Students

Tutoring

  • Coordinate all tutoring services on campus through the recruitment and supervision of tutors.
  • Match students who request tutors with an appropriate tutor.
  • Create advertisement brochures, etc. so students will be readily aware of this free program.

Peer-Based Instruction

  • Coordinate peer based instruction on campus through the recruitment of peer instructors.
  • Train and supervise peer based instructors.
  • Meet with faculty from departments who would like to use this program and the Associate Dean for Academic Enhancement to negotiate the number of instructors. Rate of pay will be in accordance to policy GCPP-2-15-01 Employing Student Workers.
  • Maintain budget for this program.

Freshman Seminar

  • Assist in the coordination of the curriculum.
  • Help facilitate workshops for freshman academic advisors and freshman seminar instructors.
  • Assist in providing instructional material for freshman seminar instructors.
  • Assist in providing informational materials for freshman advisors.
  • Recruit and interview potential peer leaders.
  • Train and supervise all peer leaders throughout the semester.
  • Maintain budget for this program.

Study Skills

  • Coordinate the curriculum and instructors.
  • Manage budget for the Study Skills program.
  • Assist instructors throughout the semester with questions concerning curriculum and ACE students.
  • Meet one on one with each admitted ACE student to review the ACE contract.
  • Assist in tracking and meeting with the ACE students throughout the semester.
  • Assist in the follow-up with students who received early warning reports and those who didn’t register for classes.

Qualifications

A master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling or other areas relevant to student development is preferred.
