Martial Arts at Georgetown College The Georgetown Martial Arts Club offers students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to learn karate and self-defense while exercising their bodies and minds. The style of karate we teach is a traditional Japanese style called Shotokan. Shotokan is a Japanese martial art. It is one of the largest martial arts styles in the world. Our club is part of the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) and the Japan Karate Association (JKA), with over 6 million members worldwide and headquarters located in Tokyo, Japan. Our on-campus karate club operates under the guidance of Dr. Erfani, a professor of Economics at Transylvania University and head of the Kentucky Shotokan Karate Association (KSKA). In addition to the Georgetown College club, the KSKA also includes a club at Transylvania University. The JKA training method makes karate suitable for anyone, regardless of age, size, or gender. Karate training develops concentration, self-control, coordination, endurance, and physical fitness. Karate has a very positive and lasting effect on an individual's future by improving his/her self-confidence, discipline, and leadership. If you have any further questions, try our FAQ or e-mail the club. |
