Dr. Nancy Lumpkin joined the Business and Administration Department faculty in the fall of 2000 and was awarded tenure in the Spring 2005. Dr. Lumpkin specializes in industrial organization, economic history, and finance, teaches classes in Managerial Decision Making, Finance,  Economic History, and Investments. Her Ph.D. in Economics is from the Claremont Graduate University, where her dissertation examined the relationship between profitability and organizational structure for large railroads at the end of the 19th century. Dr. Lumpkin's current research concentrates on the tobacco market during the Black Patch War at the turn of the 20th century.

Dr. Lumpkin grew up in California. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sweet Briar College, after attending St. Hugh's College, Oxford, her junior year. Dr. Lumpkin was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and earned the Wall Street Journal Prize in Economics her senior year. Upon completing her dissertation in August, 1999, she spent the first year of her career as a Visiting Professor at Vanguard University, in Costa Mesa, California.
