Phi Beta Lambda

Phi Beta Lambda is a national organization for college students who have an interest in business. Phi Beta Lambda is the college division of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, a nonprofit education organization with approximately 250,000 members worldwide.  The main goal of the organization is to produce successful business leaders, and this goal is being met with many successful members and alumni. Opportunities for leadership development include planning, implementing, and evaluating activities such as a seminar for graduating seniors to prepare them for entry into the business world, a professional advisory board to help chapter members through mentoring and career advice, competitions for members at the state and national levels, and community service projects benefitting the March of Dimes and the local community through more effective business education.

The Georgetown College chapter has been active since it was chartered in 1972.  Each year, members have competed at the State and National Leadership Conferences.  Projects and individuals have placed First in state competitions and in the top 10 in National Competitions every year for decades.  For the past five years, Georgetown College has won the Gold Seal Chapter of Merit award.

At the 2010 State Leadership Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, the Georgetown College Chapter won first in Membership and in Local Chapter Annual Business Report, and Second in Outstanding Chapter.  Bethany Johnson was recognized in Who’s Who in Phi Beta Lambda.  There were eleven other team and individual first-place wins, as well as six other second and third-place awards.  At the National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, our Chapter won First Place in Parliamentary Procedure.  This was the first time in almost a decade any Chapter from Kentucky had won this award.  The students that competed on the Parliamentary Procedure this year team were:  Bill Beckerson, Brittany Hawkins, Megan McKay, Amanda Schmoll, and Heather White.  Bethany Johnson won First in Management Analysis and Decision Making and Logan Atwood and Jessica Bright finished Fifth in Marketing Analysis and Decision Making.  Although 2009-2010 was a very strong school year, Phi Beta Lambda's success is due to the students that have created and kept a tradition of excellence.
