Recruiting Process

Faculty Advisor:  Dr. Nancy Lumpkin - (502) 863-8393

The Georgetown College Investment Team was established at the start of the 1996 academic year as an innovative, hands-on, educational program which allows selected students to invest a portion of the college's endowment in equities which they research and choose.

Eight students are chosen each year to participate in the project based on leadership ability, teamwork, creativity, common sense, academic standing, and interest in the stock market.  Participation on the team is open to Georgetown College juniors and seniors in all majors.

The team begins the year with a team-building orientation meeting.  Weekly meetings occur throughout the semester where team members make their trading decisions.  Dr. Nancy Lumpkin, Associate Professor of Economics and Finance, serves as the team's advisor and attends meetings in order to be available if needed.  These resources, pooled with the students' enthusiasm for learning and investing, have resulted in a valuable learning experience.

After an initial orientation, the students are free to work as independently as possible.  Each individual conducts extensive research and monitors the portfolio on their own, and the group meets as a team once a week to discuss the current portfolio and prospective stocks to purchase or sell.  The strategies followed are guided by each team and can be different from year to year.

Team Members for 2008 - 2009
Mandy Brickner, Michael Clemons, Joe Fisher, Carson Keally, Melinda Moyo, and Mallory Sparks. Taras Golditchuk will serve as team captain.

The recruiting process is conducted during the spring semester.  Applications are available in February at the Business Administration office.
