Alma Hall, Associate Professor, graduated from Hanover
College, gained a Masters in Social Work from the University of
Louisville and, after careers in social work and business, returned
to Vanderbilt to earn the PhD. Her dissertation, Reflections,
The Images and Stories of Women Leaders, examined the personal narratives
of a group of nationally known women.
Alma continues to research and teach in leadership studies,
including undergraduate and graduate courses each spring semester entitled
"Leadership for Change". She recently published a
chapter, "For Kentucky: The Shared Vision of Governor
Martha Layne Collins," in a book Navigating Boundaries, The
Rhetoric of Women Governors which was edited by Brenda Marshall
and Molly Mayhead.
Alma also teaches in the areas of interpersonal communication and
group dynamics. She continues to provide communication, team
building, and leadership consulting for corporate, non-profit and
business development. Her work with a state government agency
resulted in the publication of an article in The Advocate
entitled "Defender Professionalism and
Excellence". For her work with that agency's leadership
development, Dr. Hall was given the Kentucky Public Advocate's Award in
September 2000.
Alma has two grown daughters and is a
new (and very proud) grandmother to Warren (born on December
21st, 2005). FALL 2007 COURSE ASSIGNMENT:
