Jason Phillips research interests deal with music videos as rhetorical and cultural forms. He examines gender portrayals in music videos. Jason has presented various papers on these topics and has won two top paper awards at the Southern Communication Association conferences (in the popular communication and gender studies divisions).

Jason has a wealth of teaching experience with courses in Public Speaking, Communication Theory, Media Criticism, Broadcasting, Introduction to Communication, and Persuasion. Prior to graduate school, he worked in radio and television professionally for eight years where he got involved in every aspect. This included on-air work, production, writing, and news. Jason served as the news director for WHRZ radio in Madisonville and was a news producer and editor for WKNT TV in Bowling Green. He serves as the faculty advisor for the college radio station.

Originally from Madisonville, KY in the western part of Kentucky, Jason has taught at WKU and U. of Memphis (as a graduate student) and has also held a full-time teaching position at Pikeville College.
