Committee
members:
Rosemary Allen (chair), Tom Cooper (secretary/spring), Bryan Crawley, David
Forman, Alma Hall, Paul Redditt (secretary/fall), Sigrid Suesse. Students:
Stephane Hayner, Ruth Nallan. Ex Officio: Grover Hibberd, Mary Margaret Lowe,
Andrea Peach.
The
committee met monthly. The
committee
·
worked on
making recommendations for the restructuring of the faculty status of
librarians. As of the fall of 2000,
librarians had faculty status in name, but had staff contracts and no procedure
for tenure and promotion. The
committee worked in conjunction with the Faculty Committee to determine what
steps were needed to move librarians to full faculty status. A subcommittee is still working on drawing up evaluation
guidelines for tenure and promotion; this issue will continue to be a main focus
of the committee in the coming year.
·
participated
in the search for a new Head of Technical Services (replacing Victoria
Greenwell): a top candidate was interviewed on campus last week.
·
recommended
action on items referred to us by AGS and by individual students.
·
reviewed
and considered changes in networked program options (SPSS statistical package,
Exchange, etc.)
·
discussed
establishment of a Technical Center (parallel to the Writing Center) to provide
support for students having difficulty with technology applications.
This Center is still in the development stage.
·
reviewed
a proposal for a new minor in Information Technology.
·
considered
technology access issues, including the availability of technology in the
classrooms; the reallocation of LRC 15 as a classroom, and other issues related
to technology access. The
committee’s plan for next year will include further investigation of
technology setups in buildings across campus to facilitate teaching.
Respectfully
submitted,
Dr.
Rosemary A. Allen, chair
