Scholarship Opportunities for Outstanding Graduating Seniors
Rhodes Scholarships
Thirty-two scholarships for two or three years of graduate study at
Oxford University in any field. The scholarship pays academic fees plus an
allowance to cover round trip fares and personal expenses. Applicants must
be graduates under the age of 24 by the start of their year at Oxford. Four
criteria govern selection: scholarship, character, leadership and physical

Marshall Scholarships
Forty scholarships for two or three years of graduate study at any
British university or business school. The scholarship pays air fares,
tuition, fees and additional expenses. Applicants must be graduates under
the age of 26 by the start of their year in Britain. Scholarships are

Mitchell Scholarships
Twelve scholarships for one year of graduate study at any Irish
university. The scholarship covers air fares, tuition, fees and expenses.
Applicants must be graduates under the age of 30 by the start of their year
in Ireland. Scholarships are awarded for academic ability and public
service.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships
Numerous scholarships cover between one and four year's graduate study at
Cambridge University. It is anticipated that Gates Cambridge Scholars will
become leaders in helping to address global problems related to health,
equity, technology, and learning.

Fulbright Grants
Eight hundred scholarships in over 50 countries for one year of study,
teaching or research. Graduating seniors are eligible. Scholarships cover
round-trip transportation, tuition, books and living expenses. Applicants
design their own projects in a specific country, and must represent the
United States well. To win, the applicant must have a good reason to do
study or research a particular country. For some countries, foreign language
skills are required.

National Science Foundation Fellowship
Eight hundred and fifty fellowships worth $15,000 plus a cost of
education allowance for up to three years of graduate study leading to
masters and doctoral degrees in engineering, mathematics and a wide range of
sciences. The fellowship can be taken up at any accredited U.S. or foreign
academic institution.

Mellon Fellowships
Eighty-one fellowships worth $15,000 plus a cost of education allowance
for the first year of graduate school in the U.S. or Canada. For students
who intend to make a career of teaching or scholarship in the humanistic

Javits Fellowships
Seventy-five fellowships, worth up to $15,000 a year for up to four years
graduate study leading to a doctorate or MFA degree in the humanities,
social sciences and arts. The award can be used at any U.S. institution of

Scholarships for Sophomores and Juniors
Truman Scholarships
Eighty scholarships for juniors, covering academic expenses through
senior year and graduate school, to a limit of $30,000. These are for
students with an outstanding capacity for public service who want to make a
difference in society.

Goldwater Scholarships
Two hundred and fifty scholarships for outstanding sophomores and juniors
in mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering. Awards of up to $7,500
cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board for the last year
or years of undergraduate education.

Udall Scholarships
Seventy scholarships for sophomores and juniors, paying one year's academic expenses up to $5,000.These are for outstanding students who plan a career in environmental public policy. http://www.udall.gov
National Security Education Program Grants
These grants provide opportunities to develop or strengthen the
capabilities of U.S. students in languages, culture, and international
fields of study. They are an excellent source of income for study and/or
work overseas. Students must identify the foreign study programs and then
apply to NSEP for financial support in completing those programs.
