Logging In

All faculty, staff and students automatically receive a user name and password. This user name and password is required for login; the login process grants the user access to technology services. The systems requiring login are:

The same user name and password is used in all cases.

When you first start any Windows-based computer located in any of the public computing classrooms and laboratories, you will be confronted with a login dialog box that will ask you for three pieces of information: User Name, Password, and Domain. Use the <Tab> key to move from one entry area to the next and then enter the information. Press <OK> when you are done to initiate the login process.

Default User Name and Password

User Names

The default user name is the first letter of your first name, followed by the first six letters of your last name, followed by a number. For example:

Name: Mary Anne Smith
user name is msmith0
Name: Joey E. Maxwell
user name is jmaxwel0

There are two important things to remember about user names.

  1. You are assigned a user name based upon the name we have on file for you. If you legal name is James Robert Shanahan but you registered as Robby Shanahan, then first letter of your user name would be r not j.
  2. Since it is possible for two persons with different names to have the same user name, the last item in the user name is a number that is assigned sequentially starting with zero. For example, if John Summers and Julie Summersby both were at Georgetown College, and John was assigned an email address before Julie, then their email addresses would be jsummer0 and jsummer1, respectively.

Passwords

The default password is the first three letters of your middle name followed by the last four digits of your social security number. For example:

Name: Mary Anne Smith
Social Security Number: 123-45-6789
Password: ann6789

What if you do not have a middle name? Then use the first three letters of your first name:

Name: John Jones
Social Security Number: 123-45-6789
Password: joh6789

What if you registered with just a middle initial? Then use the middle initial followed by a period:

Name: Helen L. Sterioff
Social Security Number: 123-45-6789
Password: l.6789

Domain

The campus network has two domains, STU and FAST. STU is for students while FAST is for Faculty and Staff.

It is imperative that you attempt to login as soon as possible to see if you have any problems. You should do this BEFORE the first day of classes. You may use any of the public computers on campus (LRC, Anderson Lab, etc.)

If You Cannot Get Logged In …

  1. Check your typing; you may have typed something incorrectly.
  2. Make sure that the CAPS LOCK key is not depressed. Passwords are in lower case.
  3. If all else fails, you must go to the ITS Help Desk in Cooke. Make sure that you have your G-Card with you for identification.
