Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions

Q. I just moved into a new room and I don't know the password for the PhoneMail box?

A. If you have just moved into a new room which was previously unoccupied (in other words you are not moving into a room with an existing occupant) and need to have the PhoneMail box reset, call extension 8000.  The box will be purged (all existing messages, recorded names, greetings will be erased) and the password will be set to 111.

Q. I know my password but I just can't make it work?

A. Call 8000.  Your password will be set to your extension number.

Q. Why do you sometimes set the default password to 111 and other times the extension number?

A. The process used to remove old messages, delete recorded names and erase greetings also sets the default password to 111.  When we purge all the boxes over the summer it saves a lot of time if we simply purge the box and let the default password remain.  When you call and ask to have your password changed we are limited to a 4 digit password.  That restriction precludes the use of 111.  We then use the extension number of the PhoneMail box as the default password.

Q. How long after I leave in May can I call back in and pick up messages from my PhoneMail box?

A. We do not guarantee the ongoing viability of PhoneMail for non-summer school students after graduation. Typically we purge all PhoneMail boxes within the first two weeks after graduation.  The extensions on campus are reprogrammed within three days after graduation to no longer forward calls to PhoneMail.  Other things which can affect the timing of when we purge a particular box will be the use of the particular Residence Hall for the summer.  Residence Halls used for Summer School students will typically be reset for their use as soon as they move in which can be earlier than we get to the process for other rooms.
