Eudora Lite -- Student Version

All publicly accessible computers on campus (computer labs, classroom, LRC) with the exception of those dedicated to Library OPAC and Internet searches, have the Student Version of Eudora Lite installed as the default email client for students.  Eudora provides a graphical interface to the student email system and is an intuitive, easy to learn system.

When you first logged on to a networked Windows 95 or higher computer at Georgetown, an email directory called Eudora was created on your student network drive.  Eudora will use this directory on your Y: drive to store your Tiger email.

The first time you use Eudora on campus you will be prompted for your POP Account, Real Name, and Return Address.  Enter your email id followed by @tiger.georgetowncollege.edu in the POP Account field (ex. jdoe0@tiger.georgetowncollege.edu); the name you want to be identified by on email headers in the Real Name field, and your email id followed by @georgetowncollege.edu again in the Return Address field.  You will only need to enter this information the first time you run the Student Version of Eudora.

A copy of your received email will remain on Tiger until deleted from Eudora on your Y: drive.  The Trash folder in Eudora will be emptied each time you exit Eudora, and the copy on Tiger will be deleted then as well.

Eudora in conjunction with your student network drive can be used for personal Windows 95 and higher computers in dorm rooms as well.  Follow the instructions for installing Eudora for information on setting up your PC.  If you already have Eudora installed on your PC and wish to use your student network drive to make your email available both from your room and the labs and LRC:

  1. Right click the Eudora icon on your desktop.

  2. Choose Properties.

  3. Click the Shortcut tab.

  4. In the target field (which should say something like C:\Eudora\eudora.exe) type a space after eudora.exe and then type Y:\eudora\eudora.ini

  5. Click OK.

This should make the version of Eudora on your computer store and read email to the Y: drive of whomever is logged onto the computer when the program is launched.  This would allow, for example, roommates to each access their email privately from the same PC.
