Logons, ids, passwords, and that kind of stuff.

At Georgetown College you will run into a number of technology services that require an ID and password.  To obtain an account and password, ensure that you have filled out and returned your Student TigerNet Account Form to ITS.  If you do not have this form then please stop by Cooke Memorial Library, 2nd floor and request one.

You will receive a letter in your campus mailbox notifying you of your network account creation and activation.  Your account name will be noted and your initial password will follow this formula:

Your login name is «TIGER_LOGIN» and your password is the first three letters of your middle name in lowercase followed by the last four digits of your Social Security Number. So, if your middle name was Shannon, your Social Security Number was 111-22-3333 and your College ID number was 123456, your password would be sha3333. If we had your middle name as “S.”, your password would be s.3333.  If you don't have a middle initial or if you didn't tell us that you have one, your password will begin with the first three letters of your first name in lowercase. If you do not have a Social Security number or didn't give it to us, we used the last four digits of your College ID number. So, using the above example, your password would be sha3456.

Your TigerNet account gives you access to several network resources such as PAWS, shared network resources (Y drive), Blackboard, and your private email account to name a few.  In order to use the majority of these systems you must be logged on to a networked computer on campus, however certain systems may be accessible from an internet connected computer.

Most of these systems will require you to make a password change during your first logon and will require periodic password changes.  You will be prompted when it is time to change your password.  Because of password changes on each system you could end up having several different passwords.  You must keep track of your passwords since ITS cannot retrieve them but only reset them.
