Changing network passwords
In addition to your email password, you have two passwords that are used anytime you
logon to a networked Windows computer on campus. Each networked Windows computer uses a
workstation password associated with your account, and the network servers use a network
password associated with your account. Both your workstation and network passwords are
initially set to your middle initial and the last four digits of your social security
number. To change your passwords:
On a Windows 95/98 computer
To change both your workstation and network password
 | Double-click the My Computer icon (usually in the upper left-hand corner of the
desktop) |
 | Double-click Control Panel |
 | Double-click Passwords |
 | Click Change Windows Password |
 | Click Microsoft Networking |
 | Type your current password |
 | Type your new password |
 | Type your new password again in the Confirm field. |
 | Click OK to save the new password |
To change only your workstation password (only affects the PC you are using)
 | Double-click the My Computer icon |
 | Double-click Control Panel |
 | Double-click Passwords |
 | Click Change Windows Password |
 | Type you current password |
 | Type your new password |
 | Type your new password again in the Confirm field |
 | Click OK to save the new password |
To change only your Network password
 | Double-click the My Computer icon |
 | Double-click the Control Panel |
 | Click Change Other Passwords |
 | Highlight Microsoft Networking and click Change |
 | Type your current password |
 | Type your new password |
 | Type you new password again in the Confirm field |
 | Click OK to save the new password |
On a Windows for Workgroups computer
To change both your workstation and network password
 | From the Main group, double-click the DOS Prompt icon |
 | Type "net password" without the quotes and press Enter |
 | Type your current password and press Enter |
 | Type your new password and press Enter |
 | Type your new password again to confirm the change and press Enter |
 | Type "exit" no quotes and press Enter to return to Windows. |
The next time you log on your new password will be in effect.
To change only your workstation password (only affects the PC you are using)
 | From the Main group, double-click the Control Panel icon |
 | Double-click the Network icon |
 | Click the Password button |
 | Enter your current password. Enter your new password. Enter your new password again to
confirm it. Click OK and exit back to Program Manager |
The next time you log on your new password will be in effect.
