The following audition guidelines are for music majors, minors, and electives who wish to be considered for ensemble scholarships:
Prepared solo;
Chromatic scale covering the entire range of the instrument;
Selected major scales/arpeggios;
Sight reading material.
Prepared piece from memory from the classical vocal repertoire;
Vocalize for the music faculty.
Prepared solo (from memory for pianists);
Selected major scales/arpeggios;
Sight reading material.
Please notify the Music Office prior to the audition if you wish to have a piano accompanist provided.
Audition by audio cassette/CD/videotape is possible for students who reside a significant distance from campus, however, a live audition must be completed at Georgetown College during the registration period prior to the start of classes in the fall.

The department schedules a number of audition dates each spring. Individual appointments are also possible in the event of conflicts.
Incoming students choosing to major or minor in music will be asked to complete a written Music Theory Assessment on their scheduled audition date--takes 10-20 minutes. Students who test below a predetermined score will be encouraged to spend time during the spring and summer, prior to their fall GC entrance, working on music theory fundamentals. Music scholarships are potentially available to any Georgetown College student, regardless of major.
