APPLIED MUSIC
Private instruction in keyboard, band/orchestra
instruments, and voice is offered during each of the first, second,
third and fourth years, with material and performance meeting standards
of increasing difficulty. One half-hour lesson per week plus one
hour of practice per day for a term yields one hour credit. Two
half-hour lessons per week plus two hours of practice per day for a term
yields two hours credit. Participation in a Primary Ensemble (MUS
101, 102, or 105) is required in order to study privately.
155-156-157-158. Class Piano. (1
hour) Group instruction in piano employing the facilities of the
piano laboratory.
161. Applied Music. (1 hour)
Lower-level individual instruction in piano, organ, voice, band
instruments and stringed instruments.
161SA. Secondary Applied. (1
hour) A continuation of basic skills and abilities learned in MUS
113, 213, 214, 215 and 216. Emphasis will be placed on instruction
which enables a student to perform appropriate solo literature suitable
for use in the public school. Additional attention will be placed
on the development of teaching techniques that will enhance students'
success in the public school. Two hours of secondary applied are
required. (See B.M.E. degree description for further
information.) Prerequisites: MUS 113, 213, 214, 215, 216.
162. Applied Music. (2 hours)
Lower-level individual instruction in piano, organ, voice, band
instruments and stringed instruments.
361. Applied Music. (1 hour)
Upper-level individual instruction in piano, organ, voice, band
instruments and stringed instruments.
362. Applied Music. (2 hours)
Upper-level individual instruction in piano, organ, voice, band
instruments and stringed instruments.
