Adjunct Instructor Jana Pope Flygstad
Flute

Jana Pope Flygstad
Mrs. Flygstad is a freelance music teacher and performer
in the Louisville and surrounding areas. In addition to flute
performance, she teaches Elementary General Music and conducts the
Elementary Choir at Highview Baptist School in Louisville,
Kentucky. In 2002 she was also appointed Fine Arts Director at HBS.
Mrs. Flygstad earned the Master of Music degree in Flute
Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and the
Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of
Kentucky. While Flygstad attended Northwestern University, she was
appointed to teach applied flute for non-majors. In Spring 2000,
Flygstad performed a concerto with the University of Kentucky Wind
Ensemble. In Summer 1999, she performed in the Kent/Blossom Music
Festival with the Cleveland Orchestra.
Masterclass experiences for Flygstad include performing
for such notable flutist/teachers as Julius Baker, Randy Bowman, Bradley
Garner, and Jim Walker. Her primary teachers include Walfrid
Kujala, Joshua Smith, Gordon Cole, and Janet Hale.
