Department of Music Handbook

Students planning to major/minor in music, or desiring to study privately, should audition for the music faculty.  (See Auditions for specific requirements.)  Potential majors/minors should take the written Music Theory Assessment at the time of the audition.

Advisory Program

The Department of Music has a personalized approach to advising, whereby an appointment schedule is maintained by the advisor in coordination with the registration schedule.  Students are encouraged to pursue predetermined tracks of study which lead toward self-actualization.  In addition, all professors maintain regular office hours to answer questions and to advise students on academic matters.

Audition Information

Music auditions are held during the spring semester on the following dates:  Martin Luther King, Jr., Day; VIP Day, President's Day, and Scholarship Interview Days.  Additionally, students may make arrangements to audition on the two Academic Interview Days.  Students with conflicts may contact the Music Office (502-863-8100) for an individual audition date. Students will be notified of acceptance into the Department of Music approximately one month following the audition date. Those students wishing to be considered for a music scholarship are encouraged to audition before March 15.
