AREA MAJOR / MINOR

Please refer to the college catalog for general information related to the area major and minor, including minimum grade point average requirement.

AREA MAJOR

An Area Major in Music must be approved by the Department of Music faculty.  A written proposal outlining all course work should be submitted to the department chair prior to the first-Friday-of-the-month departmental meeting.  The entire department will review the request.  If approved by a quorum, those faculty members will sign the proposal.  A copy will be placed in the student's permanent file for reference.

AREA MINOR

An Area Minor in Music may be approved by the department chair.  A written proposal outlining all course work should be submitted.  As approved by the department, an Area Minor in music must include the following:

• 2 hours of Music Literature (MUS 125 or 126), or Music Appreciation (MUS 107),

• 4 hours of Music Theory (MUS 111 Basic Musicianship I),

• 4 hours of Applied Music in one performance area.

If approved, a copy will be placed in the student's permanent file for reference.
