ENSEMBLES

VOCAL

MUS 101 * CHORALE:  An auditioned choral ensemble of approximately 30-45 members.  The Georgetown Chorale performs a variety of choral repertoire including major works from the Renaissance through the 20th Century.  Annual tours are taken throughout the United States.  Tours abroad occur every few years.  (1 hour credit) Rehearsal times: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 12:00-12:50 p.m.

MUS 102 * CONCERT CHOIR:  This chorus performs larger choral works, including an annual fall presentation of The Messiah.  Representative spring works include Brahms' Requiem, Haydn's The Creation, Mozart's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, and Handel's Judas Maccabaeus.  (1 hour credit) Rehearsal times:  Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:00-12:40/12:50 p.m.  (Concert Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble. Voice majors and minors are required to participate each semester of residence.)

MUS 103 CHAMBER SINGERS:  An auditioned ensemble of approximately twelve-sixteen voices which performs chamber choral literature.  (1/2 hour credit)  Rehearsal times: TBA

INSTRUMENTAL

MUS 105 * SYMPHONIC BAND:  A large instrumental ensemble that performs a wide variety of literature composed, arranged, or transcribed for brass, woodwinds and percussion.  The Symphonic Band performs one "on-campus" concert each semester, embarks on regional tours, and performs for other campus and community events.  Participation in the Symphonic Band is open to all Georgetown College students, with the permission of the Director.  (1 hour credit) Rehearsal times: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 4:00-4:50 p.m.

(MUS 105) "Fighting Tiger Grrr...Pep Band" (FTGPB):  This ensemble performs at home football and basketball games each semester and has become a focal point of excitement and enthusiasm for our campus community.  Additionally, the "FTGPB" travels each year on a national scale.  Participation in the "Fighting Tiger Grrr...Pep Band" is open to all Georgetown College students, with the permission of the Director.

MUS 106A CHAMBER ENSEMBLE:  Registration on approval of Director.  The ensemble (strings and/or ww) rehearses and performs a wide variety of literature at Chapel services, recitals and other functions off campus.  (1/2 hour credit)  Rehearsal times: TBA.

MUS 106B CHAPEL BRASS:  Registration on approval of Director.  The ensemble rehearses and performs a wide variety of original and transcribed arrangements at Chapel services, recitals, and other functions.  (1/2 hour credit)  Rehearsal times: Tuesday, Thursday, 11:00 a.m.

MUS 108 JAZZ ENSEMBLE:  Registration on approval of Director.  The ensemble studies jazz, rock and popular music idioms through rehearsals and performances.  (1/2 hour credit) Rehearsal time:  TBA.

MUS 109 HANDBELLS:  Registration on approval of Director.  An ensemble of approximately 10-14 persons engaged in the preparation and performance of music composed for bells.  (1/2 hour credit)  Rehearsal times: Monday, Wednesday, 3:00-3:50 p.m.

A student may elect to audit a music ensemble(s) during terms when registered for over 18 hours.  Syllabus requirements must still be met, however, or audit credit will not be awarded.
