Be able to spell V9, V11 & V13 in any given key.
Regarding 4-part writing, be familiar with the voice the 9th,
11th or 13th usually appears in.
(Danged prepositions.)
In a minor key, know what determines IV9 or iv9.
Know how the 9th usually resolves.
In 4-part writing, be able to list the chord factors which are usually
present re 9th, 11th & 13th
chords.
Be able to explain how the 9th and 13th
factors are affected by major/minor mode.
You will be asked to write ninth chords (supertonic, subdominant,
dominant) on a staff (all chord factors present) in various
major/minor keys. Included will be secondary embellishing
chords: V9/?, Vb9/?. You will need to be familiar
with which chord factors are altered and which are not.
You will be asked to complete a few part-writing examples based on
the Roman numeral analysis symbols provided. You will be creating all
four voices, not just A/T, so think smo-o-o-oth voice leading.
