Re the birth of MIDI:
-
be able to name the companies involved
-
be able to state the year of its inception
-
be able to state the title of the first MIDI
document.
Be able to name a few of the parameters affected by
MIDI control messages (e.g., foot pedal data, control wheel
data, control slider data, etc.).
By drawing lines to represent MIDI and audio cables,
be able to "interface" a computer to a synthesizer, and a
synthesizer to a cassette deck or other recording device.
Regarding the harmonic series (a.k.a., overtone
series), be able to write out the next seven overtones (through three
octaves) on any given fundamental. A diagram appears on page 211
of the Pellman text, and on page 168 of the Williams text. It may help to think of the pattern as a
X7
chord. (I hate to discriminate here, but this question will only
be applicable to music teachers. Others are not responsible
for knowing the series.)
