StudioWare view (p. 273ff) gives you access to
StudioWare Panels, one of Cakewalk's most powerful features. These
panels let you create and use controls for sending and recording events
to tracks, such as: MIDI controllers, Sysx, CAL Programs,
Aftertouch, and MIDI notes, etc. (Note: StudioWare is designed for
advanced Cakewalk Pro Audio users. Before using, check out the
Tutorial on p. 107ff., elements of which are highlighted below.)
Opening the View
In Track View, select one or more tracks by clicking, or
Shift-Clicking (for multiple-track selection), then, right-click
anywhere in Track view and select Panel. In StudioWare
view, you work with elements called Widgets and Panels.
(Note: The vertical Panel of control knobs will appear only for
each track that is selected. If you only select one track, only
one panel will appear. Above, five tracks were selected (via
Shift-Click) for there to be five panels represented.)
Widget--each slider, knob, button or other control.
You can change what each does, if necessary.
Panel--all the groups of widgets in one StudioWare view.
The Default Panel
When you first open StudioWare view, you see the following controls
for the selected track(s):
- Mute button: silences the track
- Chorus knob: controls depth of this effect
- Reverb knob: controls depth of this effect
- Pan knob: controls stereo field placement
- Volume slider: controls volume for the track.
The knobs and slider work as you would expect. Just click on these
widgets to move them and change their values. Any mouse
manipulation of the Panel widgets will generate MIDI data that can be
recorded into your song.
Menu Buttons
Snapshot Button (camera)
Clicking the Snapshot button lets you capture widget positions at a
given point, such as a certain measure number. If at measure 36,
for example, you want the volume to drop in each track, type in 36 as
the measure number and simply lower the volume slider for each
track to the desired position. Then, press the Snapshot
button. When you play back the song, all the sliders will drop
when measure 36 is reached.
Record Button (red)
The Record button lets you record widget movements in real time for
all widgets that are assigned to tracks. Should you desire
gradual changes in settings, you need to use the Record button rather
than the Snapshot button. Cue the music to the appropriate
measure, then, press the red Record button (in Panel View, not in
Track View). Press Play, and move the controls as you would
like; the movements will be recorded. NOTE: Be sure to
press the Record button again to deselect it; otherwise, any other
changes you make will also be recorded. If the changes you
desire are too complex to make in "one take," simply repeat
the process until all the desired changes are made.
Update Button (slider icon)
When the Update button is down, widgets will move to show any events
that you recorded, or positions that you captured with
snapshots. If it is not depressed, you will be able to hear
changes you have made, but you will not be able to see the control
knobs move.
Save Button (disk icon)
Click this button to save the current Panel's settings. A dialog
box will prompt you to enter a name for the Panel, and enter a
password so that other users can't save or redesign the Panel.
Design Button
This takes you to Design mode. Here, you can add, configure,
and change the look of widgets to create your own custom panels.

This function is beyond the scope of our class.
