The primary goal of the department is to provide a wealth of meaningful experiences with and about music for all members of our campus community. Within the historic and distinctive tradition of liberal arts scholarship for which the College is nationally recognized, the department strives for excellence, whether in the classroom, studio or ensemble setting. The Department of Music offers a wide and varied selection of courses for music majors, minors and those electing to further their ability, knowledge, appreciation and understanding in the area of music. All students entering the music program as a major must successfully audition in their performance area. Acceptance as a music major is conditional upon approval by the music faculty. In addition, potential majors and minors must complete a music theory diagnostic test. Before being accepted into the B.M.E. program, an interview must be completed with the music education faculty. Music scholarships are potentially available to any Georgetown College student, regardless of major. The department offers the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music in Church Music, Bachelor of Music Education; Music Minor, Music Minor in Church Music. Also offered, in conjunction with the Graduate Education Division, is the Master's Degree in Education (music emphasis). Recent Georgetown College music alums have attended graduate schools including: The Cleveland Institute, Eastern Kentucky University, Marshall University, Murray State University, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and University of Louisville. Some of our recent graduates are also teaching in the public school system in Kentucky or in other states, while others are serving in worship leadership roles (Ministers of Music, pianists, organists).
