Practice Conducting Projects - PCP's
[100 points or 20 points per project]

During the course of the semester you will have the opportunity to share five (5) Practice Conducting Projects with the class. Each of the PCP's will be worth twenty (20) points - and the evaluation will be one-half self-evaluation and one-half teacher evaluation. The purpose of these projects is to help develop in each of you the basic skills and abilities which are essential to the art of successful conducting. There follows a brief description of each PCP and its respective due date [changes will be made as necessary].

Practice Conducting Project Number One
4/4-3/4-2/4 - legato, marcato - with baton/without baton
[twenty points possible]

Practice Conducting Project Number Two
preparatory beat styles, release styles, fermata styles - with baton/without baton
[twenty points possible]

Practice Conducting Project Number Three
Bach Chorale - Wie Schon Leuchtet der Morgenstern - with baton
[twenty points possible]

Practice Conducting Project Number Four
Vivaldi Concerto Grosso - 1st Movement - with baton
[twenty points possible]

Practice Conducting Project Number Five
Star-Spangled Banner - with baton
[twenty points possible]

Final Conducting Project [100 points possible]

This project will be worth 100 points. As with all other of the conducting projects - the evaluation will be one-half self-evaluation, and one-half teacher evaluation. For this project you will use a baton and conduct an excerpt from the great Carl Orff classic, Auf Dem Anger from Carmina Burana. These projects will be video-taped, and viewed privately - at a scheduled time - with the teacher - for evaluation. The FCP should exemplify well-developed baton technique, presence, preparatory beats, control of tempi, control of the mixed-meter nature of the excerpt, and all other facets of good conducting.
