Conducting Projects - Music 337

Five Practice Conducting Projects - PCP's
[125 points or 25 points per project]
and
Final Conducting Project - FCP [75 points]

During the course of the semester you will have the opportunity to share five (5) Practice Conducting Projects with the class. Each of the PCS's will be worth twenty-five (25) points - and the evaluation will be one-half self-evaluation and one-half teacher evaluation. The purpose of these projects is to help develop in each of you the basic skills and abilities which are essential to the art of successful conducting. Due to the smallish size of the class - we shall probably resort to the PCP's being performed with recordings. There follows a brief description of each PCP [changes will be made as necessary].

Practice Conducting Project Number One
Study & Prepare the "Stars & Stripes Forever"
[or similar musical offering TBA]
[twenty-five points possible]

Practice Conducting Project Number Two
Study & Prepare "On a Hymnsong of Lowell Mason"
[or similar musical offering TBA]
[twenty-five points possible]

Practice Conducting Project Number Three
Study & Prepare "Irish Rhapsody"
[or similar musical offering TBA]
[twenty-five points possible]

Practice Conducting Project Number Four
Study & Prepare "Holst 2nd Suite in F"- movements 1 & 3
[or similar musical offering TBA]
[twenty-five points possible]

Practice Conducting Project Number Five
Study & Prepare Vaughn Williams "Folks Song Suite" - movements 1 & 2
[or similar musical offering TBA]
[twenty-five points possible]

Final Conducting Project
[75 points possible]

This project will be worth 75 points. As with all other of the conducting projects - the evaluation will be one-half self-evaluation, and one-half teacher evaluation. For this project you will conduct Study and Prepare Robert Jager's "Esprit de Corps" [or similar musical offering TBA]. The FCP should exemplify well-developed baton technique, presence, preparatory beats, control of tempi, control of the metric nature of the piece, cues and all other facets of good conducting.
