Projects - Fall 2007
Survey of
Leaders - 20th C Music Education [100 points or 50 points per
assignment]
During the course of the semester you will have the opportunity to
complete two "surveys" of leaders in 20th C. music education. These will
be selected from the list which follows. Each "survey" will be at least
two and no more than four, typed, double-spaced pages, written utilizing a
formal writing style [i.e. APA, Turabian, etc.] The goal is to gain an
understanding of the "greats" of music education. Each "survey" should
include general background information, early/important developmental
influences, their main tenets, and influence(s) which they have had on the
field of music education. They will be submitted via the Assignment
Submission Page [if working] or to me via email.

Practice Teaching Projects
[100 points or 50 points per assignment]
The two
Practice Teaching Projects are:
1. teaching a recorder tune to illustrate a musical element or concept
2. using Kodaly methodology, to illustrate a musical element or concept
Each teaching project will be worth 50 points and will be due at the
following times:
Project #1: Wednesday, November 7
Project #2: Wednesday, November 28
Each of these projects will be further explained during the course of the
semester.
Article Reviews [100 points
or 50 points per assignment]
During
the semester, you will be asked to read and write a review on two articles
pertaining to the field of music education. You might choose articles
from the MEJ, JRME, CRME or other professional journals. Topics will be
assigned during the course of the class. Each article review should be
typed, submitted via the Assignment Submission Page [or email] and is
worth 50 points. They are due at the following times:
#1 article review due - Wednesday, October 17

Written Philosophy Project [90 points
possible]
At
the end of the semester, you will be asked to write your philosophy of music
education. This will be considered a formal paper and should be typed and
follow a standard writing format [i.e. APA, Turabian, etc.] As your
philosophy will hopefully be developing and growing thoughtful use of
external sources is essential. You should use no less than eight outside
sources and the paper should be between four-six pages in length and
submitted via the Assignment Submission Form
