Music Appreciation, Dr. Peter LaRue

"Designed for the Betterment of 8:00 Scholars Everywhere"

  Music Performance Events
for MPE1 & MPE2

General Notes
- each MPE is worth a possible twenty-five points
- for each you will use the Assignment Submission Page
[as such - you do not need to bring me a program or ticket stub]
- for each - you will only get full credit if the assignment is submitted on time [Reading Day]
- yes, some sections of MUS107 have more, some less requirement of this nature
[for becoming a certified 8:00 Scholar - two is sufficient]
- the extend to which you answer the questions for each will be reflected in your points earned
- at the end is a schedule listing many coming on-campus performances
- if you choose to attend another performance off-campus, et al - please just check with me first

The Goal
The goal of the MPE assignments is for you to perhaps attend a concert you might not normally choose to attend - and in so doing - think about the performance with let's say - an enhanced approach of listening

No
just because you love Dave Matthews [and I do too] does not mean that attending a Mr. Matthews concert would "count" as an MPE

Music Performance Events Number One & Two
[twenty-five points possible for each - total of fifty points]
Due Date: no later than Thursday, May 6th [Reading Day]
Assignment Code: MPE #1 and MPE #2
[you might choose to "do" separately or together]

Assignment Submission Form

This "report" should not be a critique of the performers, but rather an indication in your own words of what was heard and perceived. The thoughtful MPE should include:

a. the name of the event or concert attended
b. the nature of the performers [i.e. singers, instrumentalists, etc.]
c. the nature or genre of music presented [i.e. style, period, etc.]
d. significant comments concerning musical elements [i.e. form, etc.]
e. what you found pleasing or rewarding about the performance
