Course Needs

For the successful completion of Music 107 Section A and to be a fully certified 8:00 Scholar, you will need the following ...

Text: [NOT REQUIRED] Machlis, Joseph and Kristine Forney. (1995) The Enjoyment of Music. 8th edition  [or whichever edition they are on now] New York: W.W. Norton & Company. [The text is used primarily as an additional reference source for your musical growth - AGAIN - you are not required to purchase the book]

CD's/Listening Tapes: [NOT REQUIRED] Included with the text are three listening CD. These CD contain listening examples which will be used throughout the duration of the course. Specific listening assignments will be given from the pool of examples on the CD. A prospective list of the listening examples for which you will be responsible may be found at the "Required Listening" area of ScholarNet.

ScholarNet: Starting in the Winter of 1996 and first used during the Spring Semester of 1997, I designed and developed "ScholarNet" as an enhancement for the learnings and musical growth of  8:00 Scholars. The original ScholarNet was on an internal "network-based" drive. Starting with the Spring 2000 Semester "ScholarNet" was updated, renovated and placed in this web-based environment. Each semester I add and further refine and define the award-winning ScholarNet web-site. Use of ScholarNet is essential to your growth and development as a fine 8:00 Scholar. Here in ScholarNet - you may find a veritable plethora of course information, requirements, assignments, the all-important Module notes, and several interesting audio and video "clips". Please use and peruse as necessary - I hope you enjoy. You might "bookmark" this ScholarNet site for ease of access.

Email: As you will "wire" several of the ScholarNet assignments directly to me by email - IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU HAVE A VALID AND FUNCTIONING EMAIL ACCOUNT. You will follow the format as prescribed in the "assignment" area for these projects. Virtual Mini-Tests [aka MT's] and Tests [aka T's] shall also be relayed via email. Additionally, I will occasionally "wire" you updates and reminders concerning upcoming T's [Tests] or assignment due dates.

Destination Drive: We will use the Destination Drive system in the Band Room during the course of the class. The DD will be used to access ScholarNet and play all of the imbedded audio and video clips. The DD will also be used for several multi-media presentation during the course of the semester.
