Panasonic Video Cassette Recorder
 |
It is a safe assumption that everyone has used a VCR before, so
therefore this tutorial will only touch on the less commonly used things,
like setting up a timed recording. |
 |
Timed Recording
To set up a timed recording (called a program). A tape must be inserted first.
- Press the Program button
- located to the bottom right of the
Play, Rew,
FF, and
Stop buttons
 |
these buttons also function as navigation
arrows when viewing menus, so they shall now be referred to as the
four selection arrows
|
- Arrow down once to begin setting up a program
- Use the up and down
arrows to adjust the date to the desired day (the default is today)
- Arrow right once when you have selected the date
- Use the up and down
arrows to adjust the starting hour
- Arrow right once when you have selected the hour
- Now use the up and down
arrows to set the starting minutes (the default for both of these is the
current time)
- Arrow right once when you have entered the time
- Repeat the same method to set the time to stop recording
- NOTE: you will want to begin your
recording slightly before the time your program is to begin, in case of a
discrepancy between what you think is the top of the hour and when the
broadcast company thinks it is. I recommend 5-10 minutes, which should give
you more than enough leeway. By the same token, you should set the stop time
5-10 minutes after the program is scheduled to end.
- Arrow right once you have finished entering the
stop time
- Use the up and down
arrows to select the input (be it a Line-in or channel)
- Arrow right once you have selected the source
- Now select the quality of the picture
- The higher the quality, the less you can fit on the tape, and vice versa
- The default is SLP, progressing to
LP, then to SP,
with quality getting better at each step. Your blank tape should tell you
how much it can hold at each setting
- Arrow right when you have selected the quality
setting (aka the speed setting, because it is actually the speed at which the
tape moves while it records). If you have correctly set everything, you should
see the words Set Complete.
- If you have entered invalid settings (stopping before you begin,
starting at a time that has already passed, etc) then you will see the words
Set Incomplete and you will need to rectify the
situation.
- Once you have successfully set a program, you will be taken to the List of
programs, where you should see your settings.
- If you wish to delete a program, simply arrow to it and press the
ADD/DLT button located to the right
of the 0 numeral key.
Untimed Recording
- Insert your blank tape
- Verify that the RCA cables (the ones with yellow, white and red plugs) are
correctly connected
- if you are trying to record from the TV, make sure that the
TV’s Output goes to one of the
VCR’s Inputs)
- Press the Input key, located to
the left of the numeral 4 key to cycle through the Line-ins and channels
- Use the number keypad to enter in a channel number, after you have used
the Input key to cycle to the
numbers
- Once you have selected the source, press the
Speed key, located to the left of
the numeral 7 key to cycle through the various
Speed/Quality settings
- The order is SLP, LP,
SP, with an increase in quality at each setting
- Once you have set the quality, simply start your source and press the
Record button, located below the
Action button and to the left of the
Tape Position button.
Repeat Play
Another neat feature is the ability to have the tape cycle endlessly, useful
if you are giving a presentation at a convention or similar situation and wish
to have the tape continually providing information. To set this up, press the
Action key, located to the lower left
of the selection arrows, arrow down once to
Repeat Play, then arrow
right to turn it on (or off). Press the
Action key to escape when you have
made your selection.
