Highlighting Text

One of the handiest tools for reviewing a paper document is a highlighter. Need I say more? Microsoft Word now includes this handy tool in digital form with the result being that you can highlight any text or graphic in a number of different colors.

Of course, highlighting parts of a document works best when the person you are collaborating with reviews the document online! If you highlight parts of a document that you are going to print on a black-and-white printer, run a test print of the highlighted text to ensure that it is legible.

To Highlight Text

• click the Highlight button(Word XP) or(Word X) on the Formatting toolbar
  • the currently selected highlight color will be displayed as a colored line on the button, in this case the selected color is yellow
  • to use a different color, click instead on the triangle portion of the button to display the color palette; selecting a different color also will activate highlighting
• the mouse pointer changes to a highlight marker pen
• drag over the text to be highlighted
  • to “unhighlight” text, drag over it again using the same color
  • to change highlighted text to a different highlight color, change to a different highlight color and drag the text again
• the highlight feature remains activated to allow you to highlight more text
• to turn highlighting off click the Highlight button again or press <Esc>
