Freeze Panes

Sometimes it is useful to “lock” row(s) and/or column(s) in place to keep these titles/labels visible as you scroll in the worksheet. To do this:

position the “cursor” in a cell that is just below the title row(s) and/or immediately to the right of title column(s)
choose Window Freeze Panes
- all rows above the active cell and/or all columns to the left of the active are now locked in place when scrolling
- a nonprinting border will appear at the right edge of rightmost frozen column and at the bottom edge of the lowest frozen row
to freeze rows or columns only
- to lock only rows, position the cursor in column A below the title row(s)
- to lock only columns, position the cursor in row 1 just to the right of title column(s)
to “unfreeze” locked rows/columns, choose Window Unfreeze Panes

This command acts as a “toggle”.

If no rows or columns are locked in place, the command will read Window Freeze Panes.
If rows or columns are locked in place, the command will read Window Unfreeze Panes.
