Comparing the Delete and Clear Commands

Inserting

You must remember that: columns are inserted to the left of the selected column(s) rows are inserted above the selected row(s) the number of columns or rows inserted will equal the number selected

inserting columns

• select an entire column(s) by clicking on the column label (A, B, C, etc.)
• choose Insert Columns

inserting rows

• select an entire row(s) by clicking on the row label (1, 2, 3, etc.)
• choose Insert Rows

Deleting

You must remember that: the entire column(s) or row(s) to be deleted must be selected first

• select the entire column(s) or row(s) to be deleted
• choose EditDelete

Comparing the Delete and Clear Commands

You must understand the differences between the Delete command described above and the Clear command. When you use the Edit Clear command

• the column(s) and/or row(s) remain but
  • the data in the cells is deleted
  • or the formatting attached to the cells is deleted
  • or comments attached to the cells are deleted
  • or any combination of the above

When you use the Edit Delete command, not only are the cells cleared but the column(s) or row(s) are also deleted.
