Always follow these steps:
- First, plan what you need
- then enter labels
- then format
- column widths and/or row heights
- number/text/date display (FORMAT » Cells)
- then enter
- formulas
- functions
- then complete formatting by entering borders, colors, shading
- then test with sample data
- then make necessary changes
- then set Links if needed
- then SAVE (use SAVE AS and save as a template file type if a form is needed)
- then enter real data
Although it is not mandatory that you do steps #2, #3, and #4 exactly in the prescribed order, the important point is that the entering of real data is the last step. Do not enter the real data until you are sure your spreadsheet works correctly. How do you know if it works correctly? Very simple, enter sample data that can be easily calculated!
