Adding Text Boxes to Word Documents
These are useful for explanatory notes, to emphasize key points, etc. Text
boxes are placed directly on the document. Think of text boxes as an
electronic version of a post-it note.
- choose Insert
Text
Box
- the mouse pointer will change to a plus or cross
- “draw” the text box approximately where you would like it placed in the
document
- in Word XP, a frame with the word Create your drawing
here may appear; if so, simply “draw” your text box anywhere outside
of that frame
- type your comments in the text box frame
- double-click on the edge of the text box frame to open the Format
Text Box dialog box
- format the text box (text alignment, text wrap options, fill color,
etc.) as you desire
- the option in this dialog box as the same as the Format Picture
and Format WordArt dialog boxes described elsewhere
- you can reposition the text box by “dragging”
